Mary Brown
Mary Brown, a contemporary painter based in the Bay Area, delves into a vibrant narrative exploring identity, self-reflection, and the intricate tapestry of motherhood through the lens of figurative realism. Her artistic exploration casts a spotlight on the unique individualities and the nuanced facets of her subjects, with an emphasis on women.
With a degree in biological anthropology from San Francisco State University, Mary's artistic journey evolved from a fusion of her academic roots and a deep-seated fascination with human nature. Her artistic pursuits began early, nurtured by the guidance of her great grandmother and grandmother, both extraordinary artists, who introduced her to the world of oil painting. Though Mary sustained a consistent practice in painting throughout her youth and indulged in various workshops and figurative drawing courses throughout her adult hood, she is primarily self-taught.
Transitioning into a full-time artist in 2022 after a successful career in Finance, Mary's dedication to her craft has been recognized within the art community. Mary was introduced to Chloe Gallery through founder, Amy Nelder. Mary’s work is exhibited alongside Amy’s at The de Young Open 2023.
