Balance Column, The Columns (0/12), 2018
bronze sculpture

Balance was the beginning of my career. I couldn't afford a model, so, I often held the pose in a mirror while sculpting her with my left hand. I created Balance in my first studio apartment during my first year at Pennsylvania Academy. Balance did not represent school or the place from whence I came, but rather she was exactly the moment I was standing in. She represented freedom to be myself and create my very own orbit, an orbit that would grow and that I could share with the world. Balance is courageous and powerful, graceful andfeminine. It felt so good!
